The Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, located directly between the cathedral and the Römer in the heart of the old town, is one of the most renowned exhibition venues in Europe. Since its opening in February 1986, it has focused on a progressive program without its own collection - the exhibitions are temporary, diverse and international. Modern art and contemporary positions are presented in equal measure in order to break down traditional views and open up new perspectives.
The slender, elongated structure with the impressive glass rotunda, which serves as an entrance and exhibition space, is architecturally distinctive. Since 2012, the interior has been modernized - with changing lighting using RGB technology - creating a lively connection between the light-flooded foyers and exhibition areas. The Schirn offers around 250 exhibitions a year - including major retrospectives on artists such as Kandinsky, Matisse and Frida Kahlo, as well as provocative contemporary formats and interdisciplinary projects. Collaborations with international institutions and publications strengthen its international profile.

The freely accessible rotunda is a particular highlight. It functions as a permanent exhibition space that is used annually for specific works of art or installations - from kinetic sculptures to sound installations. The Kunsthalle is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport directly on the Römerberg. It will be extensively renovated between 2025 and 2027 - a testament to its importance as a cultural monument and source of inspiration.
