"You almost feel embraced by the transparent harp sounds. There's no question that Brandee Younger has won the hearts of Hamburg audiences with her music and her charisma," enthused the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper when the charismatic jazz harpist Brandee Younger made her debut in the Elbphilharmonie's Small Hall in October 2023. And it predicted even then: "The next time she comes, her path will probably no longer lead to the Small Hall, but to the Great Hall." How true!
Together with her ingenious trio, Brandee Younger conjures up the sounds of the great jazz harpists Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby and mixes heavenly, shimmering melodies with modern hip-hop, R'n'B and funk. This unique blend makes her one of the most sought-after artists of our time: Michael Jackson producer Quincy Jones brought her into his "Soundtrack of America" project in 2019, Beyoncé used Younger's music in her film "Homecoming", rappers Common and Drake incorporated her harp into their songs and jazz greats such as saxophonist Ravi Coltrane (son of Alice and John Coltrane), drummer Macaya McCraven and bassist Christian McBride regularly bring her into their bands.
Wherever she plays, the music world is at her feet. "A triumph on all levels," was the verdict of the trade press in San Francisco. It will be interesting to see what she has come up with for Hamburg this time.
