A classic concert morning full of color, contrasts, and great melodies: the Bonn Classical Philharmonic explores musical landscapes between legend, lyricism, and symphonic breadth with Wagner, Elgar, and Schumann.

On the morning of March 15, 2026, the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn will perform a program at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg that creates tension between dramatic suggestion, romantic expressiveness, and poetic symphonics in terms of both content and sound. The orchestra, which emerged from the Chur Cölnisches Orchester when it was founded in 1986 and is particularly dedicated to the music of the Viennese Classical period and related orchestral literature, will perform a multifaceted repertoire at the traditional Hamburg venue.

The concert begins with Richard Wagner's "Siegfried Idyll," an intense piece of music with a chamber music feel that combines personal motifs with lyrical power and immediately draws the listener into the musical action. This is followed by Edward Elgar's Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra in E minor, Op. 85, arranged for viola – a work full of English melancholy, deep emotion, and orchestral subtleties, which soloist David Aaron Carpenter presents with expressive sound culture. The program concludes with Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 1 in B flat major, Op. 38, the "Spring Symphony," and, in a contrasting second role, his later Symphony No. 4 in D minor, Op. 120 – together spanning a range from youthful joy to deep contemplation to orchestral density.

The special acoustics of the Laeiszhalle, one of the central meeting places of Hamburg's musical life with its neo-baroque aura and great sonority, create a concert that brings out both the emotional nuances of the individual works and the precise interplay of the ensemble. On this morning, the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn will demonstrate how lively classical music can be when it combines tradition with personal interpretation – an experience for everyone who appreciates music in all its stylistic diversity.
