Large characters, self-confident statements and recycled textiles - these are the distinguishing features of the Parisian fashion label XULY.Bët. The MK&G is dedicating a solo exhibition to the innovative label of designer Lamine Kouyaté in the Modewelle and is showing selected pieces from the collections of recent years alongside new acquisitions from the Fashion and Textile Collection.

Founded in Paris in 1991 by Lamine Kouyaté (*1962), the fashion house XULY.Bët produces wearable fashion from second-hand textiles. The label's name comes from the West African language Wolof and means "keep your eyes open". Combining everyday and sportswear with the elegant style of Parisian haute couture, XULY.Bët broke with the zeitgeist of the fashion world in the 1990s: outward-facing seams, slanted cuts, red threads and the composition of several individual pieces printed with large activist messages and product information.

The focus is on visible processing and the holistically sustainable production of the garments. Lamine Kouyaté was inspired by his mother and grandmother, who always reprocessed the family's garments. The exhibition at the MK&G raises questions about the limits of the fashion industry and textile production, the circular economy and the interaction between the body and consumption.
