With the exhibition "Zeitsprung", the mpk offers a look behind the scenes: The focus is on provenance research into paintings from the National Socialist era - a workshop report that makes history, fates and unanswered questions visible.
Few topics are as controversial in museums as the question of looted art from the Nazi era. Countless works of art were confiscated, looted and sold under pressure between 1933 and 1945. Since January 2024, the mpk has also been tracing the origins of the paintings in the museum. In a project funded by the German Lost Art Foundation (Deutsches Zentrum Kulturgutverluste), the acquisition histories are being uncovered and fates made visible.
The exhibition is a workshop report that presents the basics of provenance research, insights into the history of the museum under National Socialism and unanswered questions.
