Port des Lumières, or "Port of Light" for short, is a spectacular digital art center in HafenCity - more precisely: in the Überseequartier-Westfield - and was opened on April 8, 2025 . The museum is the first permanent home for immersive art in northern Germany, with an impressive 1,700 m² of exhibition space and 3,200 m² of projection area. Here, 80 video projectors and 50 audio distribution points are used to transform walls and floors into living art worlds.
Culturespaces opened the first permanent exhibition center for immersive art in Hamburg in April 2025. The art center is located in the new Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier in HafenCity. As in all its other locations, Culturespaces was looking for a place in Hamburg that carries the DNA and history of the city - and found it in Überseequartier in HafenCity: With its proximity to the harbor and the water, the quarter stands for the city's maritime identity like no other. The undulating design of the façade and the reconstruction of a ship's bow in the main hall of the building take up the maritime themes architecturally and invite visitors to immerse themselves in the history of Hamburg's transatlantic cruise. The brick-clad façade blends elegantly into the surrounding architecture, with golden design elements setting special accents.
The opening exhibitions are dedicated to greats such as Gustav Klimt and Hundertwasser, complemented by contemporary works such as the digital show "Journey". Families are also catered for: an interactive studio invites children to join in, while the entire exhibition area is barrier-free. The Port des Lumières is much more than a classic museum - it is a place of wonder, emotion and creative discovery. Anyone visiting Hamburg and looking for a special cultural experience should not miss this journey through art and space.
