"Passion, precision, warmth, a golden blend: these are the hallmarks of this excellent Israeli string quartet"...

...according to The Times' assessment of the Jerusalem Quartet. Since the ensemble was founded in 1993 and made its debut in 1995, the four Israeli musicians have undergone a maturing process that now allows them to draw on a broad repertoire and corresponding tonal depth without sacrificing their energy and curiosity about the unknown. Like no other ensemble, the Jerusalem Quartet preserves the living tradition of the string quartet. Its warm, full, almost human sound and the balance between high and low voices allow the ensemble to bring out the subtleties in the classical repertoire and to devote itself to new genres and eras with equal confidence and openness—always striving for complete tonal perfection.

The Jerusalem Quartet is a regular and popular guest on the world's major concert stages. In the 2024/25 season, the quartet will celebrate its 30th anniversary. To mark this anniversary, the quartet will focus on Shostakovich's cycle of 15 quartets and perform in ten cities around the world, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Beethovenfest Bonn, Cleveland, the Kölner Philharmonie, Portland, Wigmore Hall London, St. Paul, São Paulo, Vevey, and the Tonhalle Zurich.

The Jerusalem Quartet's numerous recordings have received many prizes and awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the BBC Music Magazine Award for chamber music. After releasing 16 albums for the Harmonia Mundi label since 2005, the quartet now records exclusively for the BIS label. The quartet's first release on BIS in February 2025 features Shostakovich's Quartets Nos. 2, 7, and 10. Recent recordings include a unique album highlighting Yiddish music in Central Europe between the world wars, featuring a selection of Yiddish cabaret songs from 1920s Warsaw with Israeli soprano Hila Baggio, as well as the complete recording of their Bartók cycle.
