An evening that allows the art song to resound in all its depth - Matthias Goerne interprets Die schöne Müllerin by Franz Schubert in the venerable Staatsoper Unter den Linden - intimate, emotional and with a great voice.

Matthias Goerne is one of those baritones who lend the lieder recital an existential power: With a deep voice and intense presence, he brings Schubert's cycle "Die schöne Müllerin" to the stage and gives new life to the story of the journeyman who finds himself in love and abandoned. He is accompanied on the piano by Markus Hinterhäuser, whose sensitive piano playing makes the nuances audible and opens up space for emotions.

In the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, with its large hall steeped in tradition, the result is a concert evening focused entirely on voice and sound - without any grand staging or distractions. Here, only music and language count, each song tells its own story of longing, hope and pain. For listeners, the evening becomes a journey: through soundscapes, through emotions, through Schubert's immortal art of song - and always with the immediate feeling that song and man become one.
