The large-scale exhibition at the St. Pölten City Museum makes the harbingers of National Socialism from the turn of the century, the time of the Nazi reign of terror and socio-political continuities up to the present day tangible. "Looking into the shadows. St. Pölten and National Socialism" will cover a wider time frame than just the years from 1938 to 1945. The exhibition refuses to draw a line under the confrontation with this inhuman era. In cooperation with Tangente, the St. Pölten City Museum is attempting to examine and highlight the impact of the city's history.
The exhibition is intended to be a place where history is told by the people of St. Pölten and where new narratives are actively taken up. A place where the public can view materials from the city archives and the museum depots and thus support remembrance. A place where knowledge is not only passed on, but also generated. One focus is on enabling visitors to actively participate in the exhibition process. The exhibition team's research is continued and developed in participatory workshops with school and other groups.
Visitors are invited to pick up traces, ask questions and relate these to the current situation. In exchange with schools as well as during the dialogical exhibition tours.
