With Weltensprünge (Leaps Across Worlds ), the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Zoi Tsokanou, takes listeners on a musical journey across continents and cultures: from Mediterranean island motifs to French elegance to African-American forms of expression—an evening that brings diversity, cosmopolitanism, and orchestral power to life.
In the Great Hall of the Klagenfurt Concert Hall, the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra presents a concert program that deliberately builds bridges between geographical and stylistic worlds. Under the baton of Greek conductor Zoi Tsokanou, a thematic journey unfolds, creating surprisingly vivid soundscapes from the Aegean Sea in Giannis Konstantinidis' Dodecanese Suite. Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major combines Basque folk elements with delicate jazz influences and alternates between lyrical cheerfulness and orchestral sophistication, while African-American composer Florence Price breaks with classical structure in her First Symphony with a mischievous, majestic Juba dance.
Together with pianist Andrey Gugnin, the orchestra brings these diverse soundscapes to life and demonstrates how different musical traditions can be opened up and intertwined in symphonic expression. From Mediterranean colors to impressionistic sound poetry to powerful rhythmic impulses, the program spans a rich arc that takes listeners on an inspiring, cross-continental journey of sound.
