The music of the French composer Francis Poulenc is playfully light and dance-like, often with wit and satire, yet varied and with different characteristics. He deliberately calls his four-movement composition Sinfonietta rather than Symphonie, thus removing the heaviness from the concept. Poulenc strings together a colorful series of movements and creates surprising twists and turns.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also succeeded in doing this generations before Poulenc, even if he was entirely committed to the new classical form developed by Haydn at the time. He composed his Linzer over his head and neck because he had no symphony with him at the time and was supposed to give an academy, he told his father Leopold.
The trombone concerto by Henri Tomasi will bring the solo trombonist of the WDR Symphony Orchestra Kris Garfitt to Rostock, who won first prize in the ARD Competition 2022 with this work, as well as several special prizes. The concerto by the French composer with Corsican roots is very multifaceted, a mix of styles and elements and aims for an emotional and vivid language. Kris Garfitt and the Italian conductor and Heidelberg General Music Director Mino Marani make their debut with the Rostock orchestra in this concert.
