Between symbol, language and space: in the exhibition "Özlem Günyol & Mustafa Kunt. RATATATAA" at the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe, art and criticism merge into a provocative play of signs - precise, ambiguous and almost onomatopoeic in the title.

With "RATATATAA", the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe is presenting the first major institutional solo exhibition of the artist duo Ö𝑧lem Günyol and Mustafa Kunt in Germany. In their works, they address power, identity and representation - and shed light on how language, symbol and historical images shape social contexts.
Their works range from installations such as "Free Solo" (2019-2025) - a climbing wall consisting of details from numerous monuments - to "Flag-s" (2009) - where the flags of all nations were merged into a black surface - to more recent drawings and objects that refer to the dynamics of history and memory.

In the exhibition, drawing, object and sound enter into a relationship with each other: wire and tube installations move in space, lines become bodies, silence becomes tension. The architecture of the gallery - formerly a factory - not only serves as a backdrop, but becomes part of the discourse itself. "RATATATAA" thus invites visitors to take a stand, ask questions and readjust their perception. Visitors to this exhibition will experience art not as a still work of art, but as an active space - for thinking, feeling and questioning.
