A young girl, a voice, a legacy: Grigori Frid's mono-opera "The Diary of Anne Frank" makes the words of a moving life testimony resound hauntingly - tender, courageous and timelessly touching.

The diary of the Jewish girl Anne Frank is still one of the most impressive testimonies from the time of the Holocaust. For two years, Anne documented her everyday life, her longings and fears in her increasingly cramped hiding place in a back house in Amsterdam - courageously and eloquently, full of joy and despair. Her message could not be more topical!

In 1969, the Russian composer Grigori Frid (1915 - 2012) adapted selected parts of the diary into a mono-opera. In 21 short musical episodes, he gives resonance to the great literary power of the words. His music alternates between lyrical and rhythmic passages, revealing Anne's inner turmoil and despair, but also her longings and dreams.

The Biel director, actress and theater teacher Isabelle Freymond takes on this powerful one-person play and enriches her production around Anna Beatriz Gomes as Anne Frank with participants from the Junges Theater Biel. This entertaining and intense work is particularly suitable as an introduction to opera for our young audience.
