A journey back in time to the Middle Ages
Visitors to the World Heritage town of Quedlinburg can experience an exciting journey back in time as they stroll through the old town: winding alleyways with ancient cobblestones, spacious squares surrounded by picturesque half-timbered houses lined up close together, with the Stiftsberg towering above it all. The Romanesque collegiate church of St. Servatius and the adjoining collegiate buildings characterize one of the most important palatine and collegiate complexes in Germany, visible from afar. The Stiftsberg is one of the most important authentic sites of medieval history and was also the power center of European politics under the Ottonian kings and emperors.

More than 1,100 years ago, Duke Henry of Saxony was offered the title of king here. As King Henry I, he is one of the most important historical figures in the history of Saxony-Anhalt. The royal tombs of Henry I and his wife Mathilde can be viewed in the collegiate church of St. Servatius, as can the famous cathedral treasury, whose treasures reflect the splendor of the house. The Stiftsberg is currently one of the most prestigious construction sites in Saxony-Anhalt. The world heritage site is making itself beautiful. In 2023, a new museum on Quedlinburg's Stiftsberg will make this outstanding site of German and European history a permanent experience. The collegiate church, collegiate gardens and the castle jug will remain open during the construction period and continue to invite visitors.

But the biggest attraction is the town itself. More than 2,000 picturesque half-timbered houses can be admired over an area of 80 hectares. Buildings decorated with filigree carvings from eight centuries provide examples of all styles and tell stories from the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Classicism. This uniqueness puts Quedlinburg at the top of the list of European half-timbered towns and makes it one of the largest area monuments in Germany. The old town ensemble, the collegiate church and the castle have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.

In order not to miss any attractions, it is advisable to join one of the many guided tours of the town, which are offered on a wide variety of topics. An audio guide, which is available from the Quedlinburg Information Office with an accompanying map, provides an individual tour of the town. And if you need a break after all these impressions, you will find a large selection of cozy coffee houses in the old town. But if you want to experience even more, you should take a look at the town's varied calendar of events and exhibitions, which offers a wide range of attractive special features. The Advent City is a highlight every year with its numerous events. Lovingly decorated historic courtyards await guests, as do creative gifts and delicious treats.
