In 2025, Bregenz Spring invites you on a journey into the vastness of artistic expression in the interplay of the complementary basic elements of life, freedom and space. Under the title "UNIVERSE UNBOUND - Exploring the Freedom of Infinity", the Cultural Service of the City of Bregenz presents outstanding positions from the international contemporary dance scene at the Festspielhaus from March to June.
With five Austrian premieres and one world premiere, the curatorial approach focuses on our human existence and the deeply rooted connections to the environment, which also includes our social and societal conditions.
The powerful, profound choreographies open up a reflection on time and space in close connection to the human body - an interplay between the individual and the environment. Delicate, intimate touches alternate with large, loud, colorful, energetic gestures and invite us to redefine our own freedom of daily action and the infinite possibilities.
The "aktionstheater ensemble" will expand the festival's dance cosmos with socially critical themes at the end of June. The dance pass and tickets are available now.

The 38th Bregenz Spring Festival opens with the powerful Austrian premiere of "Deepstaria", the latest work by Sir Wayne McGregor. Inspired by one of the most enigmatic species of jellyfish, "Deepstaria" offers a sensual dance and sound experience on March 8, 2025 that illuminates our deep relationship to emptiness and our own mortality. The Wayne McGregor company, known for its fusion of dance, technology and visual art, promises an impressive experience.

Choreographer Shahar Binyamini's latest work "New Earth" celebrates its world premiere in Bregenz on April 5, 2025 and is a further development of his earlier work "More Than". The piece deals with renewal and the redefinition of being. "Bolero X", also by Shahar Binyamini, will also be performed on this evening. This powerful reinterpretation of Maurice Ravel's iconic "Boléro", which premiered at the Paris Opera House in 1928, brings a breath of fresh air to a timeless masterpiece. The inclusion of students from the first year of the BA Contemporary Dance program and the second year of the Advanced Studies program at Zurich University of the Arts not only expands the stage, but also enriches the thematic exploration of the cycle of growth and renewal.

Contre-nature ÖEA
The Austrian premiere of "Contre-nature", the latest work by Rachid Ouramdane, will take place on April 12, 2025 at the Festspielhaus Bregenz. Ouramdane continues his exploration of air movement and weightlessness and combines dance with acrobatic elements. Ten dancers create a gestural grammar that fuses lightness and earthiness in a fascinating way.

Freedom Sonata
After the great success of "LOVETRAIN2020", Emanuel Gat returns on May 3, 2025 with his new production "Freedom Sonata" after two years. This piece is a profound reflection on freedom in the modern world and questions power relations and social structures. The dancers of Emanuel Gat Dance act not only as performers, but also as active participants in a choreographic experiment about self-organization and freedom.

"A Folia", the creation of Marco da Silva Ferreira, brings historical rituals and contemporary dance aesthetics into a lively dialog on 31 May 2025. Inspired by the 15th century folias from Portugal, the performance reflects the cultural dimension of the folia and offers a modern choreographic exploration of collective rebellion. For the second creation of the evening, "Static Shot", Maud Le Pladec has developed a choreographic arrangement with the dancers of the CCN - Ballet de Lorraine that translates cinematic techniques into movement. The choreography presents itself as a block of bodies, images and sounds whose physical intensity never reaches its climax. The dancers explore pleasure and ecstasy in a constant energetic flow that culminates in the big bang of Bregenz Spring - full of power, color and dynamic energy.

With "RAGAZZI DEL MONDO - Nur eine Welt", the "aktionstheater ensemble" presents a theater performance at Theater Kosmos from 26 to 29 June 2025 that deals with the possibility and impossibility of togetherness. In its usual manner, the ensemble has its finger on the pulse of the times and creates an honest portrait of the challenges of living together in our world as the brilliant final chord of Bregenz Spring 2025.
