Right in the heart of Regensburg, the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie combines art-historical depth with a contemporary view of the cultural region of East Central Europe. For decades, the museum has dedicated itself to a unique focus: artistic creation in the former German settlement areas of Eastern Europe - and beyond. The exciting interweaving of art and history runs like a common thread through the permanent collection as well as through the changing exhibition program.
The Kunstforum is not only a place of remembrance, but also a lively venue for exchange, dialog and discovery. The collection is also continued in the city park surrounding the building: 15 sculptures in the public space extend the museum visit into the open air - a cultural experience in every respect.
The permanent exhibition "Where do we come from, where are we going?" invites you on an impressive journey through time: Over 100 paintings and sculptures tell stories from more than 200 years of European art history. From the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean, from Wroclaw to Prague - the works on display reflect not only cultural diversity, but also political upheaval and artistic awakening. Particularly exciting: the exhibition shows how closely East and West have remained connected through art, despite borders and ideologies.

A highlight of the 2025 exhibition year is the special exhibition "Lovis Corinth - Pictorial Frenzy". To mark the 100th anniversary of the great German Impressionist's death, the show takes an in-depth look at his creative process. Twelve of Corinth's original sketchbooks - made comprehensively accessible for the first time - provide fascinating insights into his world of motifs. Complemented by paintings from the museum's own collection and top-class loans, a multi-layered picture of his oeuvre emerges. Particularly innovative: visitors can browse through the sketchbooks digitally and follow Corinth's ideas virtually live.

Parallel to the Corinth exhibition, the thematic presentation "Gapless? Artworks tell story(s)" highlights the results of the provenance research project, which ends at the end of 2025. The cabinet exhibition brings together several objects from the museum's collection and presents their so-called work biography. In addition, selected paintings in the "Lovis Corinth - Bildrausch" exhibition and in the permanent exhibition will be provided with additional information on provenance and integrated into the cross-room concept.
