One of the most beautiful historic old towns in southern Germany invites you to linger.
Together with the partially preserved town wall, the numerous towers, the covered wooden bridges, a multitude of steps and "Stäffele" as well as almost unchanged medieval alleyways, the old Salzsiederstadt forms an impressive townscape. The market square, framed by magnificent half-timbered, Renaissance and Baroque buildings, is an architectural gem. Opposite the town hall, built in the style of a baroque aristocratic palace, stands the Romanesque-Gothic church of St. Michael with its mighty flight of steps. The impressive "new building", the Hällisch-Franconian Museum housed in seven historic buildings and the churches are further witnesses to medieval architecture.
