In the historic castle ensemble, the Schlosstheater Neuwied - with over two centuries of stage history - today offers modern multi-genre art between tradition and regional roots.

The Schlosstheater Neuwied is located in a side wing of the historic castle, which was already used as a theater in the 19th century and was first opened to the public in 1859. Its roots go back even further: in 1777, Neuwied's first permanent theater was established in the former comedy house on the market square, which operated as the "Rhenish Court Theater".

After an eventful theatrical history - including activity under the name "Westmark Landestheater" and later "Landestheater Moselland" - the house established itself in 1948 as the Landesbühne Rheinland-Pfalz with its home base in Neuwied. In 1976, the non-profit "Stiftung Schlosstheater" was founded to promote the house. In 1978, the theater was extensively renovated under this sponsorship. Since then, the theater has been a central venue with around 273 seats and offers a varied program of drama, musical theater, ballet and children's productions.

Today, the Schlosstheater is home to both performance spaces and production workshops for a lively multi-genre theater that is active both regionally and nationally.
