In the heart of Mainz, the Staatstheater combines historical architecture with a diverse arts program - from opera and drama to dance and inclusive festivals.
The Staatstheater Mainz, built between 1829 and 1833 according to plans by Georg Moller, stands as a cultural landmark on Gutenbergplatz with its striking neoclassical façade. For almost two centuries, it has shaped the cityscape as well as the cultural life of the state capital.
Today, the house is a vibrant multi-genre theater that unites opera, drama, dance and children's and youth theater under one roof. On its various stages - the traditional Grosses Haus, the Kleines Haus, which opened in 1997, the Studiobühne U17 and the light-flooded Glashaus - several hundred performances are staged each year, ranging from classics to contemporary world premieres and interdisciplinary projects.
The Mainz Philharmonic State Orchestra forms the tonal foundation and provides musical highlights with opera productions, symphony concerts and festivals. At the same time, the theater focuses on social relevance: With inclusive projects such as "Grenzenlos Kultur", the internationally renowned tanzmainz dance festival and collaborations with universities and independent artists, it is constantly opening up to new perspectives.
The Staatstheater Mainz is far more than just a performance venue - it is a vibrant cultural engine for the city and the entire region, combining tradition and innovation in an open dialog.
