The Kunsthalle Rostock is a cultural beacon on the Baltic Sea and the largest exhibition venue for contemporary art in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Opened in 1969 as the only new museum building in the GDR, today it combines its important collection with changing exhibitions, international artists and regional positions.

Architecturally, the building impresses with its concise 1960s design language: on the first floor, clinker brick and panoramic windows alternate with daylight, while white clad artificial stone panels characterize the façade on the windowless upper floor. Inside, variable partition walls and newly added rooms - including a white cube, show depot and lecture halls - ensure a high degree of flexibility.

With around 1,500 m² of exhibition space, the Kunsthalle presents its collection of East German modern art from the 1890s to the present day as well as ambitious special exhibitions. Current exhibitions include Usedomer Lichter and Rund & Eckig - Manchmal dreckig. Regular guided tours through the collection and the Schaudepot as well as workshops for children and young people promote direct access to art - and emphasize the open and participatory nature of the hall.

The Kunsthalle Rostock offers art lovers an inspiring kaleidoscope: historical and modern, local and international - in lively exhibitions and with innovative educational formats. Whether you simply want to browse, be surprised or actively participate - here you will encounter art in all its diversity, in an architecturally modern setting with a special charm on the Schwanenteich.
