The first artists in the history of mankind created a masterpiece in a deep cave. Horses, lions, rhinoceroses and many other animals are captured on the cave wall as if they were alive, running, hunting or facing each other.

36,000 years later, scientists, engineers and artists have achieved a globally unique feat. They have recreated the original of this cave, the Grotte Chauvet 2 Ardèche, and have thus made this extraordinary complete work of paintings and engravings accessible to the public. The excitement felt by the cave's discoverers twenty years ago can be experienced. When you enter the cave, surrounded by stalagmites and stalagtites, you can now discover the world of men and women 36,000 years ago, in a play of light and shadow, on cave walls and folds of sintering. Hundreds of animals of 15 different species can be seen. Painted with red hematite, engraved with flints, drawn with fingers or charcoal, this animal world is brought to life, so well have smudging techniques and perspective representation been recreated here. 27 friezes can be discovered over the course of an hour, which you can view as you walk along a footbridge at 10 stops. the tour ends in front of the great frieze of the lions, a monumental mural twelve meters long, on which 92 animals appear in full motion.
