A powerful concert evening in which the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under the direction of Joana Mallwitz unites classical tradition and renewal with two great soloist works and a symphonic icon.
Under the baton of chief conductor Joana Mallwitz, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin unfolds a program full of tonal colors and strong dramaturgy. The evening opens with Franz Schubert's Symphony in B minor D 759 ("Unfinished"): with an Adagio introduction that lingers in unmistakable longing and an Allegro that radiates both joy of movement and inner depth. The solo instrument then comes into focus with Béla Bartók's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra Sz 120 - a work that captivates with its rhythmic energy and colorful orchestration and in which soloist Tabea Zimmermann will demonstrate her impressive skills.
After the interval, György Kurtág follows with "Movement" for viola and orchestra - a concentrated soundscape that is barely heard, but all the more resonant. The finale is the suite from Giacomo Puccini's "Turandot" (Arr. Manfred Honeck & Tomáš Ille): opulent, resonant and with great orchestral impact. In a hall whose classical architecture and acoustic clarity create ideal conditions, this evening will be an experience that will appeal to both connoisseurs and the curious.
