An impressive selection of hundreds of objects from the Waltraud Neuwirth collection from the heyday of Gablonz Christmas tree decorations between the 1920s and 1980s transforms the Kunstblättersaal into a glittering cosmos in a design by Johanna Pichlbauer.
Between manufactory and mass production, fragile works of art of impressive stylistic diversity were created in Bohemian workshops around the center of Gablonz on the basis of old glassmaking traditions. Crafted with technical virtuosity from delicate glass rods, artfully rounded bangles, complex hollow glass formations, gold or silver-plated interiors and twisted glass beads, these soon became a global export hit - and a cult object for collectors, design lovers and all those who are enthusiastic about artfully packaged desires.
The special feature: Not only angels and stars hang here, but also surprising miniatures of everyday life - from airplanes, slide rules and handbags to spiders and frogs. These unique pieces of jewelry enchant everyone, even those who otherwise have little to do with the festive tradition. A visit therefore promises the ideal Christmas museum date - full of anticipation, sparkle and surprises.
