The SWR Big Band returns to the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle with a special program:Secrets: The Funky Herbie Hancock. Under the direction of Magnus Lindgren and John Beasley, Herbie Hancock's legendary albumSecretswill shine in a new big band guise.

Recorded in San Francisco in 1976, the album marks a high point in jazz funk and is characterized by groovy bass lines and innovative synthesizer sounds. Tracks such as Doin' Itand the reinterpretation ofCantelope Island invite listeners to immerse themselves in a world of rhythmic sophistication and melodic depth. The collaboration between Lindgren and Beasley with the SWR Big Band has already borne fruit: their tribute to Charlie Parker, Bird Lives, which the band has already performed in Bielefeld, won a Grammy. Now they are turning their attention to Hancock's work, blending its funky essence with the power of a big band.

This concert promises not only musical excellence, but also a reunion with artists who have close ties to the Rudolf Oetker Hall. An evening that explores the boundaries of jazz and takes listeners on a journey through Hancock's funky soundscapes.
