A touch of Versailles in Wolfsburg: With Leo Fall's successful operetta "Madame Pompadour", the Harztheater makes a guest appearance at the Scharoun Theater Wolfsburg and brings a charmingly elegant homage to one of the most influential women of the French Rococo period to the stage - full of wit, esprit and musical sophistication.
"Maîtresse en titre was a coveted position in the 18th century. Beauty alone was not enough to assert oneself at court; culture and education were also important: As the official mistress of King Louis XV, the Pompadour rose to become the most influential woman in France. Leo Fall's operetta about this successful woman, derided by the people as a "royal whore", was his greatest success. More than in almost any other work of this genre, the music is as imaginative as it is witty and intertwines with dialog and verse verses full of esprit. Snappy melodies such as "Heut könnt einer sein Glück bei mir machen" or "Joseph, ach Joseph, was bist du so keusch?", French elegance and erotic sensitivity merge into a unity and continue to delight audiences to this day.
As the largest stage company in the Harz region, the Harztheater is a cultural center of Saxony-Anhalt. With its drama, musical theater and ballet sections, the Harz Theatre offers a diverse and varied program all year round. In summer, open-air performances are staged at a wide variety of venues in the Harz region.
