In the heart of Kobersdorf stands a building that is far more than just a monument: the renovated former synagogue. It is not only an architectural testimony to past centuries, but also a lively place of culture, science and education. With its new purpose, it will become a space that preserves history and at the same time inspires the present and the future.
Burgenland is sending out a strong signal with the former Kobersdorf synagogue: It acknowledges its Jewish roots, the preservation of its traditions and its responsibility towards the victims of Nazi terror. The building is therefore not only a place of remembrance, but also a starting point for dialog, reflection and encounters.
Today, the former Kobersdorf Synagogue is open to a wide range of events - from scientific symposia to cultural programs - as long as they are thematically linked to Jewish history and culture. Its role in educational work is particularly impressive: programs are developed for school classes that bring history to life and, if required, also include the Jewish forest cemetery. In this way, remembrance becomes an active process that reaches and sensitizes young people.

In October, the former synagogue in Kobersdorf is presenting a varied program that combines the quiet character of the place with artistic impulses. Musical evenings pick up on the melancholy as well as the hope of the season, lectures allow voices from the past to be heard, and film screenings open up perspectives on farewells and new beginnings. Anyone who enters this place senses that the former Kobersdorf synagogue is not a silent relic, but a resonating space. It invites you not only to remember history, but to think about it - in exchange, in shared experience, in the confrontation with art and culture. In this way, a place of remembrance becomes a living space of hope and togetherness.

SHALOM KOBERSDORF: Vienna Jewish Choir - Prof. Roman Grinberg
Concert on the occasion of the Jewish New Year
The revival of Yiddish song is at the heart of the Vienna Jewish Choir. Through music, it builds bridges between different cultures and celebrates the diversity of the community. This is also reflected in the repertoire: traditional Yiddish, Hebrew and Sephardic songs are given new life and made accessible to a wide audience. Under the artistic direction of Prof. Roman Grinberg, the Vienna Jewish Choir stands for musical excellence paired with deeply felt "Yiddishkeit". Grinberg, who himself comes from a family of musicians and has been a formative figure in the modern Jewish music scene for decades, not only knows how to preserve traditional music, but also how to develop it further with innovative arrangements and new compositions.

Biographical sketch of a Nazi perpetrator
In the course of the advance of the Red Army and the approaching defeat of the National Socialist regime, numerous crimes were also committed against prisoners and Hungarian-Jewish forced laborers in Burgenland in the spring of 1945. The fury of the collapsing dictatorship was also directed against those who wanted to oppose the fanatical commitment to the National Socialist final battle. For example, National Socialist functionaries carried out unprecedented terror against their own population, particularly at regional and local level. At the turn of 1944/45, Nikolaus Schorn was assigned as political leader to the construction of the south-east wall on the Burgenland border. In the end-time mood of the Third Reich, his fanaticism, his master race mentality and his penchant for violence unleashed themselves in numerous killings of forced laborers.
