Gioachino Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" returns to Theater Magdeburg with sparkling wit, brilliant music and a pinch of depth - an operatic delight full of charm, tempo and joie de vivre.

No opera by Gioachino Rossini can boast more catchy tunes than the lively, humorous and yet profound story of The Barber of Seville! The libretto refers to the first part of the Figaro trilogy by Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, which is also the basis for Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (last performed at Theater Magdeburg in 2024).

In his modern interpretation of this timeless opera classic, French director Jean-François Sivadier relies on the power of the play, from which the charm and comedy of this work bubble out at all times, because: Rossini's music is pure joie de vivre! Beneath this surface, however, lurk the characters' fantasies and desires - their secret, crazy and sometimes frightening dreams. In a successful balance between humor and emotional depth, Sivadier makes everyone - whether opera lover or opera novice - laugh and think.
