A nostalgic glimpse into childhood: the Baden Doll and Toy Museum presents lovingly designed dolls, doll's houses and teddy bears from over two centuries - a cultural gem that enchants young and old alike.

In the heart of Baden, right next to the spa gardens and the casino, the Baden Doll and Toy Museum invites you on a fascinating journey back in time.

The diverse collection was compiled over three decades by the Baden native Helga Weidinger and opened in 1990 as a museum of the municipality. In the small, charming rooms of the historic Attemsvilla in the Biedermeier style, a world full of memories, craftsmanship and cultural history unfolds.

🎎 Dolls, doll's houses and the art of play

The collection includes precious pieces from over two centuries. The oldest exhibits include a peep box from the year 1760 and a paper dress doll from 1820.

The smallest movable doll in the museum is particularly impressive: only 12 millimeters tall, hand-carved in Val Gardena in South Tyrol.

Many of the dolls on display date from around 1900 - made from porcelain, papier-mâché, leather, fabric, celluloid or wax. The delicate faces made of biscuit porcelain, real hair wigs and movable limbs bear witness to the highest level of craftsmanship.

As the materials were delicate, children were often only allowed to play with these treasures on special days or under supervision.

🏠 Doll's houses - a mirror of society

The artistically designed doll's houses are more than just toys - they are miniature portraits of life around 1900.

The kitchen, drawing room and children's room tell stories of everyday life, role models and values of a bygone era. Each room is a small masterpiece that offers insights into the culture and tastes of the bourgeoisie.

In addition to dolls stuffed animals, wooden toys and teddy bears the public. The models from the company Steiffcompany, which invented the first teddy bear in 1902, are crowd favorites.

Named after the US President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, the bear became a symbol of security and friendship - values that still unite generations today.
