The Kunsthaus Bregenz is an internationally active exhibition venue for outstanding contemporary art. Due to its ambitious exhibition program and its unique architecture, the KUB is also internationally renowned among art and architecture enthusiasts. It was planned by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor on behalf of the state of Vorarlberg and built between 1990 and 1997. Peter Zumthor won the Mies van der Rohe Award for European Architecture with the Kunsthaus in 1998. In 2009, he was honored with the Pritzker Prize, the most prestigious award for architecture.
Artists are invited to react to the architecture or enter into a symbiosis with it. For this reason, a large proportion of the works on display are created on site and especially for the building. The exhibitions and projects at Kunsthaus Bregenz allow the artists' ideas to become reality. The boundaries of what is feasible and conceivable are pushed anew with every exhibition. The artists' visions - rough hand sketches or small models - become precisely executed projects. This is only possible thanks to the trusting cooperation between technology, curatorial management, artists and the entire team. Those responsible rely on close cooperation with partners from local industry and the trades. The exceptionally high quality and flexibility of Vorarlberg companies is repeatedly emphasized by the invited artists.
