The Sint-Janshuis Mill (Sint-Janshuismolen) is the only one of the four windmills in the city fortress that still grinds grain.

The millers will be happy to welcome you with interesting facts about the centuries-old craft. If the wind is favorable, you can see the mechanism in operation for yourself. If you climb the steep steps, you will also get a breathtaking view of the green Bruges ramparts. Windmills appeared on the fortress from the 13th century, when the outer city wall was built. The Sint-Janshuis mill dates back to 1770 and is still in its original location. The mills had an important economic function until well into the 19th century. To this day, they dominate the appearance of the town's eastern wall.
Due to the annual winter closure, the Sint-Janshuis mill is closed from October 17 to March 31. Extraordinary opening hours are November 5, December 11, January 7 and February 18.
