A place between sky and lake, where art, architecture and nature come together in quiet harmony: The Fondation de l'Hermitage combines the magic of a manor house with the magic of great art.
Above the rooftops of Lausanne, nestled in a spacious park with mature trees and views of Lake Geneva, lies the Fondation de l'Hermitage - a jewel in the Swiss museum landscape. The elegant 19th century manor house was opened as a museum in 1984 and has since developed into an important center for fine art. Anyone entering the building immediately senses its special atmosphere: it is less a traditional museum and more a refuge where art and nature, past and present enter into a quiet dialog.
The museum is dedicated to European art from the 19th century to the modern era. In changing exhibitions, artists are presented whose works stand in the field of tension between light, landscape and emotion - from Impressionism and Post-Impressionism to Symbolism and contemporary positions. The Fondation does not simply present overview shows, but curated encounters: Themes, styles and epochs are delicately interwoven to create new perspectives.

The architecture of the building makes a decisive contribution to this experience. The light-flooded salons, wood paneling and views of the park lend the exhibitions an intimate, almost domestic dimension. Works of art do not appear here behind museum boundaries, but in rooms that invite visitors to linger - as if they were created for a dialog with the visitors. At the same time, the museum opens out onto the park and the lake through large window fronts, creating a shimmering balance between the interior and exterior worlds.
The surrounding park is part of the experience: walking paths lead past sculptures and fragrant meadows, the light changes with the seasons and even the sounds of nature become part of the enjoyment of art. This creates a place where contemplation becomes contemplation - art as a moment of peace, far away from the hustle and bustle and noise.
The Fondation de l'Hermitage is therefore much more than a museum. It is a place of contemplation and inner reflection, a house that combines beauty and contemplation. Here you will not only encounter paintings, but also the quiet poetry of a place that embeds art in the rhythm of nature - and makes seeing a form of contemplation.
