Between composition and free improvisation, the duo Georg Vogel and Elias Stemeseder develop a musical dialogue of extraordinary intensity. With two pianos and an almost telepathic interplay, they create an open sound space that transcends genre boundaries and allows musical associations to be experienced in constant flux.
Pianists Georg Vogel and Elias Stemeseder, both originally from Salzburg and now living in Vienna and New York, repeatedly come together for extraordinary duo projects. With a blind, almost telepathic understanding of each other, they create their own musical cosmos far beyond any genre boundaries. This evening, they will present a new program for two pianos that expands the repertoire of their debut album DDIOFEO (Schattellit 2022). Improvisation plays a central role, with twenty fingers forming a plastic, intuitively modulating sound body.
The dynamics develop through the program via compositionally vague and precisely predetermined fields penned by the pianists. The duo explores improvisational means of expression, polyrhythmic frameworks, slow vocalism, chordal vehemence, and motivic hide-and-seek to create a continuous chain of associations.
