Jewish women designers of the modern age

The exhibition shows the importance of Jewish women designers for the emancipation and modernization process of German society in the early 20th century - in their role as women, Jews and artists. With exhibits from more than 60 female designers, the world's first group exhibition on this topic brings together pioneering women who, despite social marginalization, fought for outstanding positions in their respective fields until the National Socialist regime destroyed their careers and lives.

Some managed to escape and make a new start abroad. Almost all of them have remained suppressed from German art and cultural history to this day. The Jewish Museum Berlin is making their forgotten biographies and their artistic and entrepreneurial achievements visible again through their works. The exhibition presents a broad spectrum of design and craft techniques: from goldsmithing and textile art to ceramics, wood carving, fashion design and graphic art.
