Liliana Moro. Andante con moto is the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist, who was born in Milan (IT) in 1961. It spans an arc from her early work of the late 1980s to her current oeuvre and also includes new works developed with a view to the presentation at Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein. The exhibition is dedicated to a fundamental aspect of her work: sound, which is alluded to in the title. Moro's artistic work explores means of expression such as sound, spoken and written word, sculpture, performance, drawing, collage and video. With her works, Moro aims to capture the perceptions and emotions of the viewer and invite them to participate physically, intellectually and emotionally.

The central theme of this exhibition is sound. Sound almost inevitably has a public dimension, sound is 'free space'. Liliana Moro

The Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein has an important collection of Italian art, especially Arte Povera. Liliana Moro completed her training at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan - at a time when Arte Povera was finding its way into art schools and museum collections. With Andante con moto, the Kunstmuseum presents an Italian artist of the next generation. Her work emerged from the moment of a violent break with the past and from a desire for freedom away from the issues of the time. "We were free and we were individualists," says Liliana Moro.

Even in the foyer of the museum, it is clear what the exhibition is about: a two-metre-high, glowing blue neon ear (Ascolto, 2006) welcomes visitors and points out the central importance of listening. The new production Fischio #4 (2023) can be heard in the staircase to the skylight halls. A whistle from the artist - triggered by a sensor - accompanies the audience on their way into the exhibition. The exhibition opens with Spazi (2019), a work based on Liliana Moro's practice of making models of the many places where she has exhibited. The art museum is also represented among the detailed miniature exhibitions.

In Moi (2012) - a circle of twelve loudspeakers on tripods - the artist's voice can once again be heard. She recites fragments of a review of her performance Studio per un probabile equilibrio in movimento from 1997. In a work from 2001, for the title of which she has placed a blank space in quotation marks (" "), the audience is challenged to walk over transparent shards of glass.
From its beginnings to the present day, Liliana Moro's artistic work has explored various means of expression such as sound, spoken and written word, sculpture, performance, drawing, collage and video. Her works are often based on everyday objects and situations and invite the audience to look behind the - only seemingly - obvious. Each of her artistic gestures requires the active participation of the visitor, whether by entering, crouching down or listening. Liliana Moro's practice of continuous listening encourages us to pay more attention and invites us to participate physically as well as intellectually and emotionally. Listening becomes a shared experience.
