Ukrainian Diana Buts was born in 2000 in Lviv, the cultural capital of Ukraine. After graduating from high school, she decided to enrol at a local printing academy so that she could later study at a university in Germany. This new phase in Diana's life began in September 2019: after moving to Germany, she has been studying communication design at the Faculty of Design in Würzburg ever since. Diana Buts works as a communication designer and communicates her ideas and messages through art.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a large-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. Since that day, the Ukrainian people have been fighting for their freedom and human rights. Every day, people are losing their loved ones and their lives, their homes and possessions. Fleeing the nightmare of this terrible war, Ukrainians have to leave behind not only material things, but also their dreams, plans and hopes.
The "VOLYA" project traces the stories of these refugees who have lost their homeland. The very personal stories are anchored in the installation by three-dimensional symbols and key objects and linked to the map, depicting an inseparable connection between war and loss, as well as between the Ukrainians and their homeland.
32 objects - 32 stories - 32 years of Ukrainian independence, because every story of a person is also the story of a modern independent country. The interviews with the refugees, which form the basis of the work, can also be listened to in the exhibition space via a QR code.
