The Museum Hundertwasser is located in the KunstHausWien, which was founded in 1991 by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, one of the most important Austrian artists of the 20th century. It was originally planned and built as a home for Hundertwasser's work and was also equipped with rooms for international temporary exhibitions. The unique museum and exhibition house on the Danube Canal continues to follow the philosophical and design principles of the famous exceptional artist. On two exhibition levels, the Museum Hundertwasser brings together the most important aspects of his work and displays the world's largest collection of his oeuvre with key works of his paintings, original prints, tapestries, applied art such as stamps and flags, architectural models and evidence of his ecological commitment. Rare photographic documents and films, for example about the history of his ship "Regentag", round off the museum visit to provide a comprehensive impression of the artist's life and work. Visitors to Vienna's first "green museum" can also discover Friedensreich Hundertwasser's visionary ecological commitment - as a pioneer of architecture that is more humane and nature-friendly, he forested the roofs of his architectural projects and created the first examples of "vertical" greenery in the form of the "tree tenants" placed in the façade.

The Museum Hundertwasser was modernized in 2023 according to the highest sustainability standards. In addition to switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy, the focus of the renovation was on the museum experience in one of the most original exhibition venues in the world. The focus on art and ecology opens up spaces of inspiration for a sustainable future for guests in the renewed permanent Hundertwasser exhibition as well as in the contemporary area.

THE PERMANENT EXHIBITION
Following the artist's ideas, the new presentation of the world's largest collection of Friedensreich Hundertwasser's works was created by KunstHausWien as a joint curatorial project - in cooperation with the Hundertwasser Private Foundation and with the involvement of the author and curator Andreas J. Hirsch. The freshly renovated and more openly designed rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors show a total of 170 key works by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, including 50 paintings and loans that have never been on display at the KunstHausWien or have not been for a very long time. The exhibition dramaturgy preserves the creative and intellectual independence of its founder and focuses on the direct encounter with Hundertwasser's works, but for the first time the exhibits are accompanied by contextual information in which the artist's own words take center stage. The show also offers insights into Hundertwasser's work for highly topical issues that are essential to the work of KunstHausWien: for a peace agreement between man and nature, for building that is more humane and nature-friendly and for global peace. A highlight of the exhibition is the new model of the "Regentag" - Hundertwasser's ship, which was specially commissioned by the museum for the show.
