All the misfortune in the world comes from the early risers, with their morning agility they make short work of everything.

Two friends, both around 65, meet once a week in a pub called "Zur tschechischen Botschaft". They have known each other since their youth and went to boarding school together in a provincial town. Later they moved to the big city, one became a bookseller, the other a lecturer in Romance languages and literature. In between, they lost sight of each other. They have been meeting up again for some time now, every Friday.
They talk about times gone by, comment on current events, argue and laugh and produce all kinds of opinions. The lecturer becomes more and more radical and politically right-wing, the bookseller defends his social convictions, but loses himself more and more in melancholy observations of the world. Hidden beneath all these mountains of language - barely spoken, yet always palpable - is the drama: the fear of growing old and losing one's significance, of illness, separation and death. In this drama, the dramatic plays a supporting role, but only apparently.
