The Opéra de Lausanne has been a cultural institution in the heart of Lausanne since 1871. It has become an emblematic institution in French-speaking Switzerland and contributes greatly to its cultural influence.

Prince Tamino is not necessarily a hero in the classic sense: when he is entrusted by the three ladies with the task of freeing the Queen of the Night's daughter from the clutches of the mysterious Sarastro, he is anything but enthusiastic. But a picture of the young princess suddenly gives him new motivation: he falls head over heels in love with Pamina's image. Together with the quirky birdcatcher Papageno, he sets off on his journey. Equipped with a magic flute and a magic bell, they are ready (or not) to face Sarastro's three great tests.
The director of the Opéra de Lausanne, Éric Vigié, has brought this emblematic work to the stage. For this new production, he wanted to remove the layers of intellectual varnish that have accumulated in the collective imagination over the centuries in order to rediscover the original patina of enchantment and childlike naivety. How could this be done? By placing the three boys at the center of the narrative and dressing the whole thing in oriental silks: a guaranteed way to create a modern mood!
