The Kunstmuseum Thun presents mainly contemporary art in four to five temporary exhibitions each year. In addition to thematic and monographic special exhibitions, a collection exhibition is organized each year, which presents some of the rich holdings from a particular perspective.

It is little known that the Swiss Bauhaus master Johannes Itten (1888-1967) was not only one of the prominent protagonists of modernism in painting and color theory, but also worked extensively with textile design. In the artistic pairing, he appears alongside Bauhaus master Gunta Stölzl (1897-1983), who has gone down in art history as a "classic of textile art". Both explore new ornamental and textile forms, avant-garde material and textile structures or the use of experimental photography in textile art in an innovative way. Starting with Stölzl and Itten, an entire network of Swiss textile art can be rediscovered in a surprising way with over 100 designers.
As part of this exhibition, the cabinet exhibition SOPHIE TAEUBER. REFORMER OF THE TEXTILE TRADITION will be shown in the project room enter.
