At the end of spring, the cowbells ring on Velika planina, announcing the arrival of shepherds. The fairy-tale plateau with one of the largest shepherd settlements in Europe invites you to discover the interesting life on Velika planina and fortify yourself with delicious milk-based treats. Treat yourself to a walk on the green slopes, a longer hike or a mountain bike tour.

Velika planina offers many opportunities for walking or hiking, which can be combined with a visit to the natural and ethnological sights of this pearl. The shepherd's settlement on Velika planina comprises around 140 huts, which are known for their typical architecture and have become the symbol of Velika planina. The roofs of the huts are covered with typical spruce shingles and almost reach the ground. It is particularly lively here from June onwards, when the huts are inhabited by shepherds who stay with the animals on the mountain pasture until September. They will be particularly happy to invite you for a tasting of milk-based delicacies or a real shepherd's snack with sour milk and Sterz. Some of the huts are also intended for visitors, so you can spend the night here like a "real" shepherd.

Below Velika Planina, surrounded by green nature, you will discover three Kamniška Bistrica springs. The most famous of them, however, is its main spring, which is located near the home in Kamniška Bistrica. The Plečnikov dvorec castle is located near the spring and is perfectly embedded in its natural surroundings. On the way along the river, you will also see the Veliki and Mali Predaselj gorges. They represent the narrowest part of the Kamniška Bistrica riverbed. There is also a waterfall here, the Orglice, which is well worth seeing.
