A modern classic on the banks of the River Trave: the Musik- und Kongresshalle Lübeck combines architecture, sound and encounters - a central location for culture and congresses in the Hanseatic city.
The Musik- und Kongresshalle Lübeck (MuK) is impressively located on the Wallhalbinsel on the banks of the River Trave, just a few steps away from the historic old town. The building, designed by renowned architect Meinhard von Gerkan, was opened in 1994 and combines a concert hall, congress center and town hall in a modern, light-flooded ensemble.
With a total area of around 4,000 square meters and 15 event rooms, the MuK offers space for up to 3,500 people, making it one of the largest event venues in northern Germany. The large concert hall with around 1,900 seats and its excellent acoustics is home to the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra and regularly hosts international orchestras, festivals and guest performances.
Architecturally, the building shapes the silhouette of the city: a striking glass façade opens up a view of the River Trave, while the roof sculpture "The Strangers" by Thomas Schütte has become a landmark of Lübeck - a symbol of cosmopolitanism and cultural diversity.
Whether classical symphony concerts, major shows, congresses or trade fairs - the Musik- und Kongresshalle Lübeck is a lively meeting place for art, culture and encounters. Music, architecture and atmosphere merge here to create an overall experience that radiates far beyond the city limits.
