Embark on a journey through German history since 1945: our exhibition begins with the post-war years, new beginnings and the division of Germany. Why did the Cold War arise? How did the two German states develop and what were the connections between the Federal Republic and the GDR? What led to reunification and what challenges has Germany faced since then?

Political events and developments form the leitmotif of the exhibition. You will also encounter a variety of objects from everyday life, culture, business and world events. Have you ever seen the inside of a Raisin Bomber airplane? If not, come and see it for yourself! You can watch old commercials in a 50s movie theater, play rock'n'roll classics on our jukebox and dream yourself back to the 68s in a hippie van. You can talk to our robot lady "Eva" and share your thoughts about Germany on a media wall.

Every object in the exhibition has its own story. We tell you the small, private ones and the big ones that have changed society. Contemporary witnesses talk about their personal experiences, memories of their youth and the "beat generation" and their experiences as "guest workers" in West Germany.
You are sure to recognize things from us: an object from your grandparents' kitchen, an event your mother told you about, a song from your youth that you haven't heard for ages... A multitude of stories become "our history".
The House of History has additional offers for children and families, school classes and students, adults and senior citizens: Accompaniments, audio guides and educational materials.
