Small works of art and coveted collector's items - discover the unique stamps and postal history of the Principality of Liechtenstein

Original and digital: the Liechtenstein PostMuseum shows you all Liechtenstein stamps in detail. Other exhibits and documents provide an insight into the development of the postal system since the 15th century.
Liechtenstein has been issuing its own stamps since 1912. Thanks to their artistic design and elaborate production processes, they still have a special status in the world of philately today. A large number of them are on display in the permanent exhibition.
As early as the 15th century, the route of the "Lindau Messenger" between Lindau on Lake Constance and Milan led through what is now Liechtenstein. It is traced in an interactive presentation.
The Liechtenstein PostMuseum provides a representative cross-section of the entire philately of the Principality of Liechtenstein. Original drafts by the stamp designers as well as printing plates and printing sheets show the process leading up to the finished stamp.

Exquisite editions for collectors all over the world
Exceptional production and processing methods are regularly used. For example, laser-cut motifs look like silhouettes and an embroidered stamp appeared for the first time in 2019 to mark Liechtenstein's 300th anniversary. Collection sheets with several motifs appear twice a year. This high-quality design makes Liechtenstein stamps extremely popular with visitors as gifts and souvenirs.

Complete stock since 1912
Liechtenstein has been issuing its own stamps since 1912. The design for the very first Liechtenstein stamp can be admired in the Liechtenstein Treasury. It was created by Koloman Moser, one of the co-founders of the Vienna Secession and the Wiener Werkstätten.

Special exhibition 2023
A philatelic narrative of the relationship between Liechtenstein and Switzerland
The Customs Treaty of 1923 is undisputedly the most important treaty between Liechtenstein and Switzerland. However, the postal treaty concluded in 1920 and terminated by mutual agreement in 1999 is already a milestone in the mutual relationship, as Liechtenstein subsequently switches from Austria to Switzerland in the postal sector. In 1921, the first Liechtenstein stamps were issued in Swiss francs. The exhibition at the Liechtenstein PostMuseum is being held to mark the 100th anniversary of the Customs Treaty. It highlights Liechtenstein's close relationship with Switzerland using original designs, stamps and other philatelic features.
