The VEREINIGTE BÜHNEN WIEN (VBW) is one of Europe's most important musical theater companies, combining Viennese theater tradition with international musical and opera innovation. With its four historic venues—Ronacher, Raimund Theater, Theater an der Wien, and Kammeroper—it plays a key role in shaping the city's cultural life and contributes to the worldwide export of Austrian theater culture through international licensed productions. Each stage tells its own story and at the same time embodies the transformation of Vienna's musical theater landscape over more than a century.

The traditional Ronacher developed from a bourgeois city theater in the 19th century into a modern musical stage. After an eventful history involving fires, variety shows, use by ORF, and extensive renovations, the theater has established itself since the 1990s as an international musical theater with world premieres and successful productions such as MARIA THERESIA – THE MUSICAL. Today, the Ronacher stands for spectacular entertainment of the highest artistic standard and for the combination of show aesthetics and Austrian musical production.

The Raimund Theater, on the other hand, was originally conceived as a popular theater for broad sections of the population and developed from operetta and entertainment theater into one of the most important musical venues in the German-speaking world. After its modernization in the 1980s, international hits such as TANZ DER VAMPIRE and REBECCA as well as Broadway classics were presented here. The recent renovation and award of the Austrian Ecolabel underline the theater's commitment to combining tradition, sustainability, and contemporary musical theater.

The Theater an der Wien is considered one of Europe's most historically significant opera houses. Major works such as Beethoven's Fidelio premiered here, and later operetta premieres by Strauss, Lehár, and Zeller shaped the "Golden Age" of Viennese operetta. Since its repositioning as a stagione opera house, the theater has devoted itself to a repertoire ranging from Baroque opera to contemporary music theater productions, combining historical heritage with artistic innovation. After extensive renovation, the theater reopened in 2024 and continues on its path as an international center for sophisticated music theater.

The Vienna Chamber Opera stands for artistic intimacy and the promotion of young talent. Since its founding in 1953, it has developed from a mobile ensemble into an important venue for experimental opera formats, modern productions, and international singers' careers. Particularly influential are programs such as the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition and the CAMPUS program for promoting young musical theater talent.

Together, the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien form a vibrant network of history, innovation, and artistic diversity—a place where Viennese musical tradition and international performing arts continually encounter and develop each other anew.
