The museum houses a magnificent collection of paintings, sculptures and arts and crafts from all eras, from antiquity to the present day. Masterpieces by Polish and international artists are presented in themed galleries.

The interior of the Faras Gallery houses the largest collection of Nubian artifacts in Europe, with exhibits dating from the 8th to the 14th century, including unique wall paintings. These come from the submerged Christian cathedral in Faras in Sudan and depict divine beings, dignitaries and saints. Authentic 15th-century altars from various regions of Poland, Gothic sculptures and paintings for private prayers are housed in the Gallery of Medieval Art. If you want to understand the role of art in the past, this is the place for you.

The Gallery of Ancient Art takes you back to a time when painting and sculpture were comparable to craftsmanship. In addition to paintings and sculptures, you can see beautifully decorated furniture, fabrics and tableware and even the insignia of King August III.

In the Gallery of 19th Century Art, you can enjoy the most outstanding works of Polish artists exhibited in the context of European art. A special attraction is Jan Matejko's "Battle of Grunwald", the largest Polish painting, whose canvas measures almost 40 m2 (4.26 x 9.87 m). The Polish Gallery of Design has furniture, textiles and household appliances, including models of once very popular televisions and radios. Don't miss the interesting temporary exhibitions that are regularly on display in the museum.
