Two famous names from French history: Leonardo da Vinci and Catherine de Medici, a unique landscape, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, and world-famous castles on the magnificent Loire river landscape, which is one of the richest cultural landscapes in Europe. French kings and the Parisian nobility moved to this dream landscape in the 16th and 17th centuries and built their summer residences here, which are among the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in Europe.

At the beginning of the Renaissance, under the French kings Charles VIII and François I, the mighty medieval fortress of Amboise was converted into a royal residence. The court, numerous European scholars and artists stayed there at the invitation of the rulers, such as Leonardo da Vinci, whose remains rest in the castle chapel. Built on a rocky plateau overlooking the town and the Loire, the castle is one of the most important castles in the Loire in terms of cultural history and was the residence of French kings from the 15th to the 19th century. The royal apartments house a magnificent collection of furniture in the Gothic and Renaissance styles, from the Empire and Louis-Philippe era.
