Sir John Eliot Gardiner once said: "For me, Brahms' large-scale works are full of power, drama and stormy passion. Jorge Luis Borges once discovered 'fuego y cristal' in them. So how can this fire and crystal best be expressed?". The British conductor offers an answer to this question on the podium of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, with which he will perform all four of the German composer's symphonies on two evenings.
