Since 1989, the international choral community has gathered in Marktoberdorf every two years over the Whitsun weekend for one of the world's most prestigious competitions for chamber choirs. In 18 competitions to date, over 250 choirs from nearly 50 countries have showcased what choral music has to offer today in exciting competitions and extraordinary concerts. The 19th International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf will take place from June 6 to 10, 2025, at the MODEON Marktoberdorf and throughout the Allgäu region.
Sixteen outstanding choirs are expected, including those from the Philippines, Indonesia, the USA, Mexico, Sweden, Italy, Latvia, the Czech Republic, and Germany. The international choirs will not only compete against each other but will also perform concerts together. Five parallel concerts will take place from
7th to 9th June in Altenstadt, Bad Wörishofen, Kempten, Irsee, Waal, Augsburg, Memmingen, Füssen, Kaufbeuren, Polling, Isny, Bad Hindelang, Nesselwang, Wildpoldsried and Marktoberdorf.
The competition will open on 6 June at 7.30 p.m. with the Zurich Singakademie under the direction of Florian Helgath and the presentation of the participating choirs.
The two competition rounds will be open to the public in the morning and afternoon of June 7 and 8. Traditionally, the Singschoppen (singing get-together) with the competition choirs will take place on Whit Monday, June 9, in the tent next to the MODEON, followed for the first time by an open singing event. The competition awards ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on June 10, followed by the final choir performance at 7:30 p.m., both at the MODEON Marktoberdorf.
