Literature, visual art and the life of a great North German - the Günter Grass House in Lübeck unites all facets of his work in an exciting dialog between tradition and the present.

The Günter Grass House is located in Lübeck's old town at Glockengießerstraße 21, an ensemble of renovated old town houses. It is dedicated to the literary, pictorial and sculptural work of Günter Grass and is also a forum in which literature and the visual arts meet. The museum displays an extensive collection of over 1,400 drawings, lithographs, watercolors, original manuscripts and objects from Graves' estate. The permanent exhibition "This is Grass" takes a biographical tour through the life, work and themes of his artistic cosmos - with changing aspects that also shed light on Grass' political commitment, religious dimensions and artistic practice.

Architecturally, the house combines historical building fabric with contemporary elements. The courtyard is furnished with sculptures (e.g. The Butt in the Handle), and a garden area creates spatial links to the Willy Brandt House branch. The design makes it clear that this is not just an exhibition, but also a meeting place and stage for literary, art-historical and digital communication.

Special accents are set by regularly changing special exhibitions featuring guest artists or thematic links to contemporary art - such as works by Else Lasker-Schüler, artistic projects on The Tin Drum in virtual reality or performances that reinterpret Grass' themes.
