Between opera, drama, ballet and youth theater - Theater Kiel is an artistic reflection of the fostering city: diverse, rich in tradition and always committed to dialogue with its audience.

Theater Kiel, supported by the city and state, is an impressive multi-genre theater with musical theater, ballet, drama and children's and youth theater. It is divided into several stages - including the magnificent Opera House, the Playhouse and the Theater im Werftpark.

The opera house, built between 1905 and 1907, is centrally located next to the town hall and is considered one of the largest stages in northern Germany. Heavily damaged during the Second World War, it was rebuilt with a new interior in the early 1950s, merging elements of modern design with listed building components. Its interior - designed by Werner Kallmorgen - still bears the character of that reopening period.

The Schauspielhaus in Holtenauer Straße started out in 1907 as a small theater with comedies, operettas and farces; later, after the war and reconstruction, it became an integral part of Kiel's theater scene. Between 1996 and 1998, a comprehensive renovation was carried out to meet modern demands in terms of technology, space and audience orientation. One of the theater's firm roots is its commitment to the local audience: with youth programs, educational formats and city projects, the theater has a conscious impact on society. Drama, music and dance also become a means of cultural exchange here - supported by an ensemble of around 500 employees and through cooperation with friends' associations and foundations.

A visit to Theater Kiel means entering spaces that breathe history and at the same time convey contemporary impulses. Here, acoustics, architecture and intention come together to bring artistic diversity and cultural participation to life.
